Headless CMS

Indexa × Contentful

The leading headless CMS for enterprise content teams

EasySetup: 5 minutes

Contentful is the market-leading headless CMS, used by thousands of enterprises including Spotify, BMW, and Atlassian. Its Content Management API is robust and well-documented. Indexa connects to Contentful via the CMA to publish AI-generated articles to any Content Type in your Space, fully preserving your content model.

How it works

  1. 1

Generate a Contentful Content Management API (CMA) token from Settings → API Keys → Content Management Tokens.

  2. 2

In Indexa, select your Contentful Space and Environment, then map your Blog Post Content Type's fields to Indexa's article schema.

  3. 3

Indexa creates and publishes Entries on your schedule, populating all mapped fields and optionally triggering Contentful's built-in publishing workflow.

Why use Indexa with Contentful?

Full content model fidelity — Indexa maps to any Contentful Content Type and field structure, not just a generic blog model.

Environment-aware — Indexa can publish to specific Contentful environments (e.g., staging vs. production) before promoting content.

Rich Text field support — Indexa generates Contentful's Rich Text node format natively, not raw HTML.

Tags and metadata — Contentful Tags and Metadata are fully supported for content organisation and governance.

Requirements

  • ·A Contentful account with a Space on any paid plan (free tier has limited API calls).
  • ·A Content Management API (CMA) token — not a Delivery API token.
  • ·A Blog Post (or equivalent) Content Type with at minimum Title, Slug, Body (Rich Text), and SEO fields.

Frequently asked questions

Does Indexa use the Contentful CMA or CDA?

Indexa uses the Content Management API (CMA) with write permissions to create and publish Entries. The Content Delivery API (CDA) is read-only and not used for publishing.

Does Indexa generate Contentful Rich Text format?

Yes. Indexa generates proper Contentful Rich Text node trees (document → paragraph → text nodes) rather than raw HTML, ensuring perfect rendering in your frontend.

Can Indexa publish to multiple Contentful environments?

Yes. You specify the target Environment ID in Indexa. Common setups include publishing to a "staging" environment for review before promoting to "master".

Does Indexa support Contentful's scheduled publishing?

Indexa has its own scheduling system. It can publish Entries as drafts on Contentful and then trigger publication at the scheduled time, or you can use Contentful's own Scheduled Publishing feature.
